We bought this new whirlpool WED99HED ventless hybrid heat pump dryer even though it was considerably more expensive because Whirlpool touted significant energy savings. The logic behind the design made perfect sense - why send all that hot air out the vent when you can recycle it into the machine and not have to keep reheating it.
The dryer worked great for the first 3 months, but then started dumping hot air into our laundry room, turning it into a sauna. Two technicians came out and neither one had ever seen this machine before. Whirlpool tech support claims the machine is 'working as designed' - the operating temperature is up to 105 degrees and because there is no vent the heat has nowhere to go but into the laundry room. We live in Florida, so whatever energy savings we may be getting from the dryer will be more than lost by the increased air conditioning bill to cool all that hot air.
Now we are going to have to install a fan vent in the laundry room to try and remove the hot air from the house. BTW they don't tell you there is a screen on the BACK of the machine that they expect you to clean once a month - our laundry room is just wide enough for the washer and dryer to fit - so we are going to routinely have to actually pull this heavy beast out to get at the back.
Very poor design. Whirlpool has a very unhappy consumer here.
