We have had numerous problems with this refrigerator (model WRF990SLAM00). At first the freezer evaporator froze over. This was due to a clogged drain at the back of the refrigerator. Got that fixed, but (assuming) due to design flaws it needs to be unclogged every few months. Then the evaporator died completely -- according to a Whirlpool technician, very likely due to a manufacturing defect (and this has been a known issue for many years with these units). Got that replaced, $500 out of pocket. Recently the freezer and refrigerator evaporators started freezing over again. Guess when we noticed the problem? A few days after their 6-month warranty was up. It's like all of their parts are built to fail.

Now the refrigerator section is not cooling again, while the freezer seems fine. Got the evaporator fan motor tested -- it's dead! I've seen refrigerators run for 20+ years without even one problem, but this one can't go a few months without a repair of some sort. This refrigerator is just over 3 years old! At this rate, this "Gold Series" refrigerator may cost us double the original price due to repairs. And by that point, judging by the how things have gone so far, some critical part will fail that will cost more to replace than to just buy a brand new refrigerator.

Whirlpool, fix your products!!! You sold us a LEMON!
