Corporate representative called this morning and said they want happy customers. She offered to replace the wall oven with an upgraded model, which we accepted. This is far more than expected and her very pleasant attitude is what I expect from a Whirlpool employee as compared with the grouchy woman from the Customer Care department we dealt with a few times.

Whirlpool Self-Cleaning Double Electric Wall Oven (Stainless Steel) (Common: 24-in; Actual: 23.75-in), Model #WOD51ES4ES00 ”Installed 3/31/17.When I first looked at it installed, it is obvious Whirlpool's quality has slipped.

The upper door was tilted to the left and no way to adjust that. Whirlpool Customer Care said there is no specification on cosmetic and refused to do anything about it. Customer Care (?) sent a service man out as it smelled terrible and somewhat like hot wires. Serviceman pulled the oven out and removed the top cover.

No evidence of wire damage. He said they all stink the first few times used. He had no idea why no air was was coming from top oven. Not sure we wanted anything to eat from an oven that was putting out such bad odor.

Ran temp as high as possible in both ovens a few hours multiple times. Somewhat reduced the odor. Ran self-cleaning ( has self cleaning in top only). After a few times baking chicken in top oven, she used the Self-cleaning feature primarily to rid the stench.

The cleaning was not very well done as there were some areas not cleaned much; It left soot on bottom inside of door and the splatter on window was now not only not removed, but baked on. Wife tried several cleaning solutions with no help. I found Mercury Outboard Power Tune took the streaks almost entirely off with much effort. Another time, while lightly wiping down the inside after use, a fingernail sized piece of porcelain fell off next to a screw on the inside of the top door.

This is sure to rust in time. To me, it appears to be caused by a factory assembler tightening down the screw too tightly. Customer Care sent service man who repeated the CC person, it was cosmetic and Whirlpool has no specification so refused repair. After about 5 months use the fan has developed a loud noise and most all of the stink is gone.

Still some now and then.

The oven only takes at most 15-20 minutes to reach set temperature and holds temp well.All in all, other than the crooked door and chipped porcelain, it is a good oven.”
