Purchased a whirlpool washer model # wtw4950xw2 in jan 2012 - did not take extended warranty - machine stopped spinning and than would not function at all in feb of 2013 (1 month after warranty expired ) . Sears and whirlpool both offered no help at all .

I found numerous complaints online after the whirlpool rep had advised me that there was no problems or recalls with this model . the washer cost 499.00 plus tax and delivery fee . the repair cost is 262.00 , or i can have it fixed and warranty extended for 1 year - cost of 326.99 , or i can toss it and replace with a new machine (which makes the most sense ) . Could not even get a discount on the part (they do make money on parts and labor charges) .

Washing machine should not suffer a terminal defect after 1 year .

Review about: Whirlpool Washing Machine.

Monetary Loss: $575.

The shift actuator is a terrible design flaw. However, you can buy one on amazon for $40 and it takes less than 5 minutes to replace.

It is very simple.

That being said, you shouldn't have to do this. I'd love to see a class action lawsuit.

i had the same experience after 2yrs wash plate went replaced $150 later. year to date wash plate went again.

(wash plate all plastic motor spline metal total stripes the plastic teeth on wash plate poor design ) 3 weeks later the shift actuator went $60 later. ow the tub bearing is going.
